DWC-004 — WETH/USDC Straddle

A WETH-principal straddle band on WETH/USDC, built to accumulate ETH and help feed gas needs.

Vault Profile

DWC-004 is the WETH/USDC straddle band within the Digital WealthCraft Krystal Vault set. Instead of using USDC as the reference, this vault is denominated in WETH, so fees accrue in WETH. That makes it an intentional ETH hodl builder and a practical source of on-chain gas over time.

Strategy Purpose

Where the USDC-based vaults (DWC-001 Moderate, DWC-002 Wide) focus on stablecoin-denominated yield, DWC-004 is designed to accumulate WETH itself. By positioning a straddle band around the active trading zone of the WETH/USDC pair, the vault harvests swap fees in WETH, gradually building an ETH position that can serve both as long-term exposure and a source of gas.

In the broader DWC context, this vault is the ETH counterpart to DWC-003’s cbBTC builder: one grows BTC-denominated exposure, the other grows ETH.

Straddle Band Design

A straddle band sits between a tighter “close to spot” range and a looser “wide” band. DWC-004 uses this idea on WETH/USDC to create a middle zone that:

  • Keeps liquidity active through normal price swings around WETH’s trading region.
  • Aims for reasonable fee density without requiring hyperactive management.
  • Acts as a bridge between the more concentrated positions and the wider, more forgiving bands.

The exact distances, ticks, and ratios for this straddle are part of the internal DWC methodology and are covered in more detail in member discussions and courses, rather than on public pages.

Why WETH as the Principal?

Choosing WETH as the principal token changes how this vault feels and behaves:

  • ETH Accumulation: Fees accrue in WETH, so success is measured in more ETH units, not just in USD terms.
  • Gas Strategy: A portion of earned WETH can be peeled off periodically to cover gas needs for the broader ecosystem.
  • Alignment with Belief: For users who see ETH as a core settlement asset, this structure mirrors that thesis on-chain.

Educational Focus

Watching DWC-004 over time gives learners a clear view into:

  • The difference between stablecoin-principal vaults and asset-principal vaults.
  • How a straddle band behaves relative to Moderate and Wide bands on the same pair.
  • What it means to think of DeFi positions as “building stacks” (ETH or BTC) instead of just chasing raw APR.
  • How to conceptually separate “yield for growth” versus “yield for utility” (like gas).

Context Within the DWC Vault Set

DWC-004 does not exist in isolation; it’s part of a coordinated set of vaults:

  • DWC-001 & DWC-002: USDC-principal vaults on WETH/USDC with Moderate and Wide bands for stablecoin-focused yield.
  • DWC-003: Tight cbBTC/WETH vault designed as a BTC hodl builder.
  • DWC-004: This WETH/USDC straddle designed as an ETH hodl + gas builder.

Together, they form a simple but powerful mental model: USDC for stability, cbBTC for BTC, WETH for ETH and gas.

Current Notes & Observations

As an active vault, DWC-004 is monitored for:

  • Time-in-range versus time-out-of-range as WETH reprices against USDC.
  • Net WETH accrued in fees over defined observation windows.
  • How often, if at all, the straddle band needs adjustment to stay meaningful.

These observations are summarized periodically in DeFi Lab updates and will influence how future ETH-focused vaults are structured.
